Vinous – 93
The 2018 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is matured 50% in barrel and the rest in tank, with just a small percentage of new wood. It has a fresh bouquet that is beautifully defined, hints of jasmine and white flowers, crushed stone and peony developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and slightly waxy in texture. A discreet grilled walnut note develops toward the finish. A complex Valmur, this, and reassuringly persistent on the aftertaste.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2040
JancisRobinson.com – 16.5
Green fruits and stone dust. Spicy on the palate. A step up in intensity compared with the Vaillon but it is still a bit soft overall. Full-flavoured and creamy on the finish. Just can’t see these ageing as long as Chablis can do. (JH)
Anticipated maturity: 2022-2028
Robert Parker – 92
The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is showing well, offering up a reserved bouquet of orchard fruit and oyster shell, framed by a delicate touch of toasty oak. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, deep and layered, with excellent concentration and a long, stony finish.
