Vinous – 92
The 2016 Nénin is more youthful in appearance than the 2015. It has a perfumed and much more floral, almost Saint-Émilion nose with violet petals coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins; it’s much more precocious than the 2015 and has more plushness and harmony on the finish. This is described as the “rebirth of Nénin” at the estate, and that is obvious from tasting this wine as it nudges ahead of the previous vintage.

JancisRobinson.com – 16+
Tasted blind. Rich and opulent with a layer of spice. Lots of substance. And more tannins than some others in this flight of its peers. A bit of heat on the end.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2036
Robert Parker – 93
Blended of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Nenin is deep garnet-purple colored and opens with beautiful Black Forest cake, baked blackberries and blueberry compote scents over a core of Chinese five spice, sandalwood and lilacs. Medium to full-bodied and laden with black fruits and spicy layers, it has a gorgeous velvety frame and just enough freshness, finishing long and vibrant.
Anticipated maturity: 2021-2038
